Targeted Delivery of Cancer Medications
Notre Dame Associate Professor Basar Bilgicer, Department of Chemical and Biomecular Engineering was recently interviewed about his team's efforts to encapsulate cancer-fighting/cancer-killing drugs into nanoparticles that can deliver therapeutic drugs directly to the site of a tumor, effectively avoiding healthy tissue and minimizing adverse reactions.
Steven Corcelli, associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry, has been selected as a member of the 2016 Fellows of the American Chemical Society. Corcelli was recognized for his contributions to science and to the ACS community.

Echoes of '58: Lights Out
I lived in Dillon Hall in Junior year and, as was the rule in the 1950’s, lights went out at midnight. To rectify the problem, we enlisted the help of a few Electrical Engineering graduate students, and they were able to obtain the keys for the attic from the Janitor.
Harden Not My Heart
During the Great Depression hobos created a sign language — symbols scratched on doorposts and in the dirt — to alert fellow homeless men of hazards and havens along the way. A cat drawn on a gate meant “A kind lady lives here,” signaling that a meal would be offered if the weary traveler but knocked.
