Notre Dame astrophysicist Timothy Beers is part of a team of international astonomers that recently discovered a star approximately 13 billion years old. The star, the first of its kind found in the Milky Way galaxy, is an important piece of the puzzle in learning more about the origins of the Universe. Beers believes the star may help us understand what happened in the Universe immediately following the Big Bang, which is as yet only vaguely understood.
