A pair of University of Notre Dame fencing student athletes were named Atlantic Coast Conference Fencers of the Week on Wednesday, with senior sabreur Ian Dwyer earning male honors and sophomore epeeist Amanda Sirico garnering the female award.

A senior from Montclair, New Jersey, Dwyer went 17-1 over the weekend at Notre Dame's DeCicco Duals and helped lead the sabre squad to a 9-1 record over two days. The Irish men went 10-0 against weekend competition, including against Lawrence, Wayne State and Detroit Mercy.

Sirico fenced in just one match over the weekend at the fourth annual DeCicco Duals, but made it count by going 3-0 in bouts against No. 8 Northwestern — including the decisive final bout — to lift the No. 3 Irish to a 14-13 win over the Wildcats. The sophomore epeeist from Bowie, Maryland, out-touched her opponents 15-7 and accounted for three of five wins at epee.

The Irish will return to the Castellan Family Fencing Center next Saturday and Sunday for the Northwestern Duals, hosted by the Wildcats. Notre Dame’s facility will house the event while Northwestern’s fencing center undergoes renovations.
