New nuclear accelerator

This spring, Notre Dame installed a new nuclear accelerator in Nieuwland Hall.  The accelerator, the first funded by the National Science Foundation in a quarter-century, is a huge upgrade for Notre Dame.

If you're not entirely sure what a nuclear accelerator does (we had no idea): It produces intense particle beams for research on nuclear reactions.  We're talking radioactive ion beams and stellar explosions.
