Smith graduated with a degree in English from Arizona State University last April and joined the Notre Dame program on Monday. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.
Smith played in 30 career games and started 18 contests for the Sun Devils at wide receiver during the 2013, `14 and `16 seasons. He missed the entire 2015 season with an injury. Smith caught 60 career passes for 908 yards and six TDs.
As a sophomore in `14, Smith caught 41 passes for 596 yards, both of which ranked third-best on Arizona State. He finished second on the Sun Devils in receiving TDs with six. Smith set a career-high with eight receptions (95 yards) against UCLA on Sept. 25, including a 29-yard TD grab. He hauled in a career-long 73-yard TD reception the following week in a 38-34 come-from-behind victory at No. 16 USC. Smith then led ASU with 67 receiving yards (on four grabs) and a TD against Notre Dame on Nov. 8. He closed the regular season with his best career game. Smith hauled in six catches for 131 yards and two TDs vs. Washington State.
