Baja SAE is arguably one of the most ideal summations of the mechanical engineering undergraduate education because it utilizes all of the coursework of the mechanical engineering curriculum in a practical manner. No prior automotive experience is required!

Students must learn the design skills of suspension, truss/chassis, drivetrain, braking, steering, and metal fabrication, including welding, cutting and grinding; crucial too is vehicle, component, and electrical system synthesis. All this must be done while also learning and practicing the equally important skills of time management, teamwork, communication, budgeting and reporting. The knowledge and experience gained through working on the Baja car breeds engineers capable of excelling in any field of engineering or business.
