Father Corby Statue at Gettysburg / Matt Cashore

The Rev. William Corby has been standing vigil in front of Corby Hall at the University of Notre Dame for more than century, his right arm raised in an eternal sign of absolution.

The figure represents the blessing and absolution that Corby, a young Holy Cross priest, gave to thousands of soldiers as they risked or gave their lives for their country near Gettysburg, Pa., during the Civil War.
