Matt Besler feature - US Men's national team

The U.S. Men’s National Team defeated Panama 1-0 on a second half goal from substitute Brek Shea to win the championship of the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, and Matt Besler '09 was on the pitch to make it happen.

Besler - the 2012 MLS Defender of the Year and a Notre Dame men's soccer alumnus - was a stalwart defensive presence from his center back position. Besler started the game for the U.S. Men's National Team, and will be starting in his centerback position for Wednesday's MLS All-Star game against Italian team AS Roma.
