The Fiesta Bowl is one of the New Year's Six bowls and a former member of the Bowl Championship Series rotation. It has been played every year since 1971 first in Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz. before moving to University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. Notre Dame is 1-3 all-time in the Fiesta Bowl appearing in 1989, 1995, 2001 and 2006. By far the highlight of Notre Dame's Fiesta Bowl history is the 1989 game in which Notre Dame defeated West Virginia 34-21 to clinch its 11th and most recent consensus national championship.
