Six days out of every year, South Bend is showcased nationally when the Notre Dame football team takes the field.
For a week in 2019, the city — and the University of Notre Dame — will be exposed to a completely different international audience.
Fox Sports viewers in 20 different countries, and an anticipated live gallery of more than 100,000 spectators, will descend on South Bend for the 2019 U.S. Senior Open Championship at Warren Golf Course on the north edge of the Notre Dame campus.
According to John Foster, general manager and head golf professional at Warren, Friday’s announcement of the tournament that will run June 27-30, 2019 (along with three days of practice rounds), culminates a plan that dates back to a 2005 conversation between Foster and Bill Warren, the representative of the family for which the course is named.
