Allen Hemberger ’01 is not a professional chef. That didn’t stop him from mastering one of the world’s most difficult cookbooks from his home kitchen.
Hemberger, an animator at Pixar, was fascinated by the exotic and innovative dishes served at Alinea, a Michelin three-star Chicago restaurant run by acclaimed chef Grant Achatz. Hemberger spent five years chasing down rare ingredients, mastering difficult techniques, and building his own kitchen tools to recreate every dish from the Alinea cookbook.
