The Atlantic Coast Conference announced on Tuesday that sophomore Anna Rohrer was named Women’s Track Performer of the Week after breaking the conference record in the 10,000m race on Friday at the Stanford Invitational (Stanford, Calif.).
Rohrer ran her first career 10,000m race in 31:58, setting an ACC and Notre Dame record. The sophomore, who is coming off of an Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship in the 5,000m, blew by several professional athletes in the race. Her finish marks the fastest time in the world this year and the seventh-fastest 10,000m performance in NCAA history.
Rohrer broke nine-time All-American Molly Huddle’s school record time of 32:37.87, trimming 39 seconds off the mark.
The honor marks the third of Rohrer’s career and first of the track and field nature. She was named ACC Cross Country Performer of the Week twice this past fall.
A Mishawaka native, Rohrer was named a Honda Sport Award Nominee for cross country and the 2016 ACC Female Cross Country Performer of the Year.
