"Servant of Two Masters" at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND  -- Carlo Goldoni never addresses the obvious question he raises in “Servant of Two Masters”: How could the heroine, Beatrice, pursue the man who killed her brother — so that she could marry him?

Before the play begins, the audience learns early on, her brother, Federigo, forbade Beatrice from marrying her lover, Florindo, who then killed Federigo in a dual and has fled to Venice, where the play begins with Beatrice’s arrival to find and marry him.
