SOUTH BEND -- “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” sing the older children while the younger members respond with a chorus from “When the Saints Go Marching In.”
They are full of energy and smiles, each child crouching low, then popping up to full height on a bench as his or her section of song begins. Their high voices fill the large room at Good Shepherd Montessori School.
Later, the children sing together in Latin a musical version of a psalm.
Welcome to one of the twice-weekly after-school rehearsals of the University of Notre Dame’s Children’s Choir, a community group of kids ages 7 to 14 who sing sacred music and offer public performances.
