Four members of the University of Notre Dame softball team officially received all-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) honors ahead of Thursday’s opening round of games at the 2017 ACC Championship at Anderson Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Sophomore outfielder Ali Wester and senior outfielder/captain Karley Wester were both selected to the all-ACC first team, while junior infielder Morgan Reed and sophomore infielder Melissa Rochford claimed all-ACC second team accolades.
The four Notre Dame selections pushed the total number of Irish players recognized on all-ACC teams to 19 since the Irish entered the league in 2014, while Karley Wester joined Micaela Arizmendi (’16) as the program’s second three-time first team honoree in the conference. The Wester sisters are the only Notre Dame softball siblings to ever be named first team all-conference in the same season by virtue of their 2017 nods on the all-ACC first team.
After earning all-ACC second team honors as a freshman in 2016, Ali Wester reached the conference’s top team this season after leading all Notre Dame players with 22 runs scored in 24 league starts. Wester added the second-highest batting average (.415), hit total (34) and stolen bases count (5) among teammates in ACC games, reaching base at a .442 clip. The Irish left fielder made 32 putouts and three outfield assists to notch a perfect fielding percentage in ACC play during the regular season.
