Stellar seasons on the field for University of Notre Dame women's soccer junior captains Katie Naughton (Elk Grove Village, Illinois/Elk Grove) and Cari Roccaro (East Islip, New York/East Islip) helped power the Fighting Irish to the third round of the NCAA Championship in 2014. Naughton and Roccaro officially capped their successful campaigns on Wednesday, being recognized as National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Women's University Division Scholar All-America third team selections. Jewell Loyd has played in someone else's shadow her entire college career. Despite her unbelievable athleticism, acrobatic finishing skills and consistency, the spotlight always seemed to shine in another direction.

As a freshman Loyd was a vital member of a Final Four team, but Skylar Diggins was a Notre Dame senior and the face of the program. Last season, Loyd led the Irish in scoring and was second in rebounding, but Kayla McBride and Natalie Achonwa were the veterans and bigger personalities.…
