Maybe the absolute worst thing that has happened to the University of Notre Dame hockey team so far in 2017-18 is that the Irish don't play for three weekends.

As women's soccer student-athletes head home for Christmas break and the 2017 calendar year concludes, the Irish faithful are encouraged to check out this past season's top-five moments.

No. 5: Jennifer Westendorf collected one of five "first goals" this season at the 57:24 mark of No. 24 Notre Dame's game against No. 4 North Carolina to give the Irish a 1-0 advantage. Notre Dame ultimately battled the Tar Heels to a 1-1 draw at WakeMed Park in Cary, North Carolina, to close the regular season. Westendorf's five first goals in 2017 rank tied for the 16th-most in program history. Read More

Bonzie Colson, a preseason consensus All-American, played one of his best games in a Notre Dame jersey on Tuesday evening. The senior forward scored a career-high 37 points to propel the Irish (9-3) to a 97-87 victory over Dartmouth.

Fellow senior Matt Farrell also had an impressive evening, pouring in 22 points. Other Notre Dame players to reach double figures were Martinas Geben (13 points) and Rex Pflueger (13 points). Read More

The No. 2 University of Notre Dame women's basketball team defeated DePaul, 91-82, on Sunday afternoon in a historical showing at Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center.

Jessica Shepard set the Purcell Pavilion women's scoring record with 39 points, and the Irish (10-1) won their 10th straight against the Blue Demons (7-4) and 13th straight at home. Read More
