Joe Kernan, former student-athlete, mayor and governor, passes away

Joe Kernan ‘68, former Notre Dame baseball student-athlete, Governor of Indiana, Lieutenant Governor of Indiana and Mayor of South Bend (Ind.), passed away this Wednesday, July 29. He was 74 years old.

Kernan was a catcher/infielder for the Irish baseball squad during the 1967 and 1968 seasons under the tutelage of legendary head coach Jake Kline. The South Bend native (St. Joseph’s High School) hit .245 over 159 plate appearances and had 22 RBI during his Irish career. Read More

Notre Dame names Bradshaw Head Diving Coach

University of Notre Dame head swim and dive coach Mike LItzinger announced the addition of three coaches to the Irish staff this week. 

Longtime collegiate coach and former Olympian Mark Bradshaw has been tabbed as Notre Dame head diving coach, while former collegiate head coach Becca Weiland will assume a new role as assistant swim coach. Additionally, Rebecca Wilkerson joins the staff as a volunteer assistant swim coach.  Read More

Track & Field earns 15 All-Academic Athlete Awards from USTFCCCA

The Fighting Irish track and field program combined to earn 15 All-Academic Athlete citations from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the shortened 2020 season.

Eight student-athletes from the women’s side earned the recognition while seven men received the honor. Both the women’s team and the men’s team earned All-Academic Team status as well. Read More

Food rescue partnership reaches 100,000-pound milestone

The University of Notre Dame has reached a milestone in its relationship with Cultivate Food Rescue: 100,000 pounds of food donated to the nonprofit to battle hunger and reduce food waste. Since 2017, the University has donated 102,622 pounds of excess food to the food rescue organization from dining, athletics and special events, including home football and basketball games. Building Services prepares for a safe and clean semester

In preparation for the influx of people, 21 supervisor-led teams are working through the day and night, using a variety of electrostatic sprayers, pressurized and trigger sprayers and wipers to disinfect all areas. Over 7,500 gallons of hand sanitizer has been procured, and will be deployed all over campus — including in residence halls, building entrances, classrooms, and in office spaces.  Read More
