Threatened by some pretty hefty issues of life, Bob Elliott did what he's always done. He came out swinging.
Fourteen years ago, Elliott -- who will enter his second season as a Notre Dame assistant football coach -- was diagnosed with a blood disease that could eventually lead to leukemia. A bone marrow transplant, radiation and chemotherapy won that skirmish.
But the real battle was still ahead.
