MINNEAPOLIS —  Senior captain Cal Burke has been named one of five finalists for the 2020 Hockey Humanitarian Award, the foundation announced on Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 5).

Burke has been a nominee each of the last two seasons for the award, which is presented annually to college hockey’s “finest citizen” for leadership in community service. The foundation showcases student-athletes across all three divisions who make significant contributions not only to his or her team but also to the community-at-large through leadership in volunteerism.

One of the leaders in regards to the team’s involvement with the Fighting Irish Fight for Life program, Burke is also a member of Notre Dame’s Student Athlete Advisory Council. The Boxborough, Massachusetts, native serves on a mental health sub-group within the SAAC, working to reduce the stigma around mental health and help-seeking.
