“Theranos was a combination of fraud with hubris mixed with incompetence.”

Author and Wall Street Journal reporter John Carreyrou wrote that line about blood-testing startup Theranos, a medical tech company founded by Stanford dropout Elizabeth Holmes and once valued at $9 billion. After Carreyrou’s reporting, Theranos was revealed as a massive case of fraud and Holmes, who goes to trial next summer, faces multiple charges of wire fraud. The case is the subject of his bestselling book “Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup."

The Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist will be speaking about the case during his upcoming talk at the University of Notre Dame at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 29) in the Edward J. DeBartolo Hall Auditorium (Room 101). Overflow seating will be available in Mendoza’s Jordan Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Carreyrou’s talk is part of the John A. Berges Lecture Series in Business Ethics organized by the Notre Dame Deloitte Center for Ethical Leadership at Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business. The fall series features company executives, senior leadership and pundits from diverse industries and backgrounds speaking on topics related to ethical practices in business.
