Favorite Professors: Carl Ackermann

Notre Dame finance professor Carl Ackermann poses in the Mendoza College of BusinessAckermann is active in University service projects and mentoring programs. He is also a Fellow of the Center for Social Concerns.

It's difficult to learn the names of 500 new students each semester, but Notre Dame finance professor Carl Ackermann a step further.

On the first day of introductory finance class in the Mendoza College of Business, Ackermann's students give him their names and the proverbial fun facts about themselves ("I have Bieber fever!"). Hence, Ackermann -- Carl, to his students -- not only addresses each of his students by name but also relates his answers and his teaching to their lives ("This is how Bieber fever explains mutual funds!").

The results speak for themselves: He received the Senior Class Fellow Award in 2003 and 2011, the BP Outstanding Teacher Award in 2001 and 2009, the Joyce Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching in 2009, the inaugural Dockweiler Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Advising in 2007, and the Kaneb Teaching Award in 2006.

He's also really good at Ping-Pong.
