NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The University of Notre Dame has won the Capital One Cup all-sports competition on the men's side for the 2013-14 athletics year.
The Capital One Cup competition is based on top-10 finishes in a combination of NCAA brackets and final polls and recognizes the top-achieving programs in college athletics.
The Notre Dame men finished with 98.5 points--60 via the 2013 Irish men's soccer national title and resulting final poll finish, 36 based on a national runner-up finish and final poll standing in men's lacrosse in May, plus two and a half based on a sixth-place NCAA finish in fencing (points shared between the men's and women's standings).
"I am so proud to see our coaches and student-athletes reach such a milestone, and to earn the Capital One Cup for the first time ever is a great accomplishment, says Jack Swarbrick, Notre Dame's vice president and director of athletics.
