Chris Watt smiles on the football field.
The toothy, wide grin would seem friendly in most other lights, a pleasant expression from the gentle 310-pound giant of Glen Ellyn, Ill. On the field, behind a face mask, it has a different effect.
Manti Te'o knows. He saw it for years.
This month, the Chargers chose Watt in the third round of the NFL Draft. The selection reunited two former college teammates. Watt, a guard, and Te'o, an inside linebacker, arrived at Notre Dame together as part of its 2009 recruiting class. Over four seasons, Te'o grew familiar with the quiet smirk that very well may define Watt as a football player.
