Bored and awaiting a bus ride back to campus, freshman Paul Gill ’70 was chatting with his buddies at the corner of Michigan and LaSalle in downtown South Bend when he heard a woman’s voice calling from above. As he craned his neck upward, he glimpsed a long-haired blonde leaning out of a window in the nearby LaSalle Hotel. She tossed M&Ms toward the group and shouted, “Hey boys, do you want to have a party?”
And that, as Gill remembers, is how he met his wife almost 50 years ago.
“That's all the encouragement we needed,” said Gill, who was among the dozens of Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s grads who recently shared stories of how they met their spouses. “We ran across the street, dodging buses and cars, and rushed into the hotel lobby.”
