In Dialogue: Marcos Raya, Opportunistic Diagnosis
Scholz Family Works on Paper Gallery
January 20-March 17, 2013
NOTRE DAME, INDIANA – The Snite Museum of Art on the campus of the University of Notre Dame will put on view a single-work exhibition: In Dialogue: Marcos Raya, Opportunistic Diagnosis on Sunday, January 20, 2013.
Highlighting a single painting by the Chicago-based, Mexican-American artist Marcos Raya, this exhibition is meant to invite participation from visitors and create an interactive experience. In this exhibition the process of interpretation is as much on display as the object itself.
Designed to highlight the many interpretive possibilities an object offers, this exhibition brings together the diverse voices of faculty, staff, and visitors to create an open and ongoing understanding of Raya’s painting.
Via an in-gallery iPad, faculty and staff will stimulate discussion by sharing their interpretations of the painting. Using the iPad, visitors will then be invited to submit their understanding of the painting, creating a rich thread of ideas surrounding the work.
Sharing their interpretations of this painting are Ted Barron, Senior Associate Director, DeBartolo Performing Arts Center; Sarah Martin, Curator of Education, Public Programs, Snite Museum of Art; Joyelle McSweeny, Associate Professor, English; Glen Niebur, Roth-Gibson Professor and Director, Biomedical Engineering Programs; and Steve Tomasula, Associate Professor, English.
The public is invited to a free reception on Sunday, February 10, 2:00-4:00 p.m.
