Introducing: Movember

Movember Daily Domer front page feature

Here at The Daily Domer, we enjoy combining our creative powers for the common good. With so many talented teachers, staff, students and alumni doing excellent work on campus and around the globe, it’s fun to put all that genius talent together for Notre Dame.

When we heard that the Fighting Irish hockey team is participating in Movember, an initiative in which men grow moustaches to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, we knew this was a prime opportunity to combine brainpower and facial hair for a good cause.

So we visited our wonderful friends at the Notre Dame Archives with a crazy idea. In support of the Notre Dame hockey team, we wanted to feature some of the fantastic facial hair from Notre Dame’s history. It turns out Notre Dame’s photo archives are veritable ‘stache stash.

For the last ten days in November, we’re featuring ten of the best moustaches (and moustache-beard combos) in Notre Dame history!

Today we’re appropriately launching our moustache features with Tom Carroll, an assistant hockey coach at Notre Dame from 1985 until 1999.

Originally hailing from Edina, Minnesota, Coach Carroll and his moustache graduated from Wisconsin after four years of playing hockey for the Badgers. During his 14-year tenure at Notre Dame, the moustachioed Coach Carroll served as recruiting coordinator as well as assistant coach under legendary Notre Dame hockey coach Lefty Smith.

Stay tuned for more moustaches for the rest of November. We hope you join us for a fun entry into a Notre Dame’s hirsute history.

And remember: if you’d like to join our Irish icers in their Movember moustache mission, please consider donating to the hockey team’s fundraising efforts. You can donate now at Movember.

Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving.
