NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The University Notre Dame (35-15, 18-6 ACC) has earned the No. 3 seed in the 2019 ACC Softball Championship at JoAnne Graf Field in Tallahassee, Florida. The Irish will play No. 6 seed Duke (25-30, 11-13 ACC) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Irish and Blue Devils did not play during the league season, but did meet at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge to open the year.

Notre Dame took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning, but Duke used a five-run sixth inning to rally past the Irish, 7-3.

If victorious, Notre Dame will play either No. 2 seed Florida State (48-8, 19-5), No. 7 seed Georgia Tech (30-26, 11-13) or No. 10 seed Virginia (22-30, 8-16) at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

The Irish have qualified for the ACC tournament six times over their six years in the league. Notre Dame owns an all-time mark of 6-5 in tournament action, reaching the championship game in both 2014 and 2016.

Virginia Tech (45-8, 20-4) secured the No. 1 seed after winning the Coastal Division. The Hokies will play their first tournament game in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 11 a.m., when they take on the winner of Wednesday's first-round clash between No. 9 seed Syracuse (20-31, 8-16) and No. 8 seed NC State (29-26, 9-15).
