NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Four University of Notre Dame men's soccer student-athletes were selected to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) All-Academic Men's Soccer Team for the 2018 season. The conference office officially released the latest edition of its all-academic squad on Thursday.
Senior defender Patrick Berneski, junior midfielder Jack Casey, senior defender Sean Dedrick and senior forward Thomas Ueland were named to the 2018 ACC All-Academic Team. Casey received the recognition for the second time in his career, while Berneski, Dedrick and Ueland were honored for the first time.
The Irish have had at least four players earn the accolade in each season competing in the ACC, spanning back to the 2013 campaign.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
Berneski (Warrington, Pennsylvania) started and played the entirety of all 21 matches during the 2018 campaign. Despite playing as a defender, the skipper tied for the team lead in goals with six on the season. The graduate student was lethal on set pieces, scoring all six goals from corners or free kicks. Five of Berneski's six goals came from headers.
Berneski completed his undergraduate degree earlier this spring and is working on an MS in Management. The center back has a GPA of 3.39 in grad school.
