NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The men's lacrosse season is just around the corner, as the 2019 ACC Men's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll was released on Wednesday. Notre Dame was slotted second in the annual rankings. The Irish had two players selected to the Preseason All-ACC Team.
Baumer Family Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Kevin Corrigan's Fighting Irish received 17 points in balloting among the ACC's five head coaches. Duke took the top spot with 21 points. Virginia (16) was picked third, with Syracuse (14) fourth and North Carolina (7) fifth.
All five ACC teams are ranked in the top 16 in Inside Lacrosse's Face-Off Yearbook Top 20 poll. Notre Dame enters the season ranked No. 6 with Duke starting at No. 2. Virginia comes in at No. 8 with Syracuse close behind at No. 11. North Carolina earned the No. 16 ranking in the preseason poll.
Representing Notre Dame, senior short-stick defensive midfielder Drew Schantz (Allentown, Pennsylvania/Malvern Prep) and junior midfielder Bryan Costabile (Sykesville, Maryland/Mount Saint Joseph) were selected to the Preseason All-ACC Team.
The Fighting Irish appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the 13th straight year in 2018. Notre Dame finished with a 9-6 overall record, which included capturing the 2018 ACC Championship title.
