Three players from the University of Notre Dame softball team were recognized on Tuesday for stellar play throughout the 2018 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) league season. Junior infielder Melissa Rochford was named to the All-ACC Second Team, while freshman outfielder Abby Sweet and freshman pitcher Alexis Holloway were each named to the All-ACC Second Team and the ACC All-Freshman Team.
The three Notre Dame All-ACC selections pushed the total number of Irish players honored by the conference to 22 since joining the league in 2014. Rochford earned All-ACC Second-Team accolades for the second straight season, while Sweet and Holloway are the first freshmen pair of All-ACC choices for Notre Dame in the same season. The Irish led all league clubs with two honorees on the ACC All-Freshman Team.
Rochford batted a team-high .333 over 23 ACC starts in 2018, adding five doubles, one home run, 13 RBI, a .425 on-base percentage and nine runs scored while making only two errors in 64 chances at third base. She was hit by pitch eight times during conference play, which ranked third in the ACC, and was successful on her only stolen base attempt. Rochford ranked second on the Notre Dame roster with six multiple-hit games in ACC play, and was also second with three multi-RBI contests.
