The University of Notre Dame men’s and women’s fencing teams finished the weekend undefeated after two days of competition at their own DeCicco Duals at the Castellan Family Fencing Center.
Both Irish teams went 9-0 and defeated club squads from Clemson, Florida, Purdue, Indiana, McKendree, Michigan, Michigan State and Chicago. Neither team allowed more than five points in any match on Sunday.
The Irish had plenty of impressive performances on the weekend. in men’s epee, Christian Aguilar finished the tournament 18-1, Aidan Antekeier was 26-6, Rory Burke was 20-2 and Zachary Cheng finished 15-1. In men’s foil, Alexander Ju (17-0), Thomas Murray (13-0), Joseph Marino (15-0), Robert Wong (13-0), Spicer Emge (8-0) and Steffen Felt (6-0) all went undefeated, while Matthew Tichacek finished 16-1. In men’s sabre, Paul Cepak went 19-3, Blake Murphy finished 15-1, Jack Rohan went 20-1, Ben Scholl was 16-3 and David Brown 12-3.
For the women, Katherine Clark (25-5), Katherine Wallace (23-7) and Marie-Anne Roche (12-0) dominated in epee; Isabelle Elizondo (13-1), Nicole Gorman (12-2), Mari Summers (20-2), Beatrice Verrecchia (10-0), Reagan Fitzgerald (14-0) and Erica Tsai (11-1) were excellent in foil; and Christina Boitano (14-1), Natalie Disher (21-0), Madeleine Gallagher (24-0), Reghan Ward (9-1) and Jamie Norville (8-0) rounded out the Irish performances in sabre.
The Irish will be back in action next Saturday and Sunday when they compete at the Northwestern Duals. Notre Dame’s Castellan Family Fencing Center will serve as the host facility while Northwestern’s fencing center undergoes renovations.
