The University of Notre Dame men’s basketball team tips off its 2019-20 two-game exhibition season this week by playing host to Capital University on Tuesday, October 29, at 7 p.m. in Purcell Pavilion.
- Capital University competes at the NCAA Division III level and is a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference.
- The Crusaders are coached by Damon Goodwin (Dayton ‘86), father of current Notre Dame sophomore guard Dane Goodwin. Damon is the winningest coach in Capital University and entering his 24th full season as the program’s head coach. A six-time OAC Coach of the Year (1996, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013) and NABC Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year (2009), Goodwin has guided the Crusaders to to five OAC regular season championships, two OAC Tournament titles and five NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Round of 16 in 2009. Capital has finished with a record at or above .500 in the conference for 14 consecutive seasons (2000-14) and has been in contention for a league title late in virtually every season during that span.
- Capital has competed in exhibition games against several midwestern Division I teams (Dayton, Bowling Green, Ohio, Purdue Fort Wayne) with an 0-5 record over the past three years.
