Opera Notre Dame presents The Coronation of Poppea, Monteverdi's timeless opera of politics, power, lust, and rage. The history of Imperial Rome presented in sounds that are as fresh as the day they were composed.
Ellen Rosand (Yale University), author of Opera in Seventeenth-Century Venice: The Creation of a Genre and Monteverdi’s Last Operas: A Venetian Trilogy, will present a talk about the opera before the Thursday night performance at 6:15 p.m. The pre-talk is sponsored by the Nanovic Institute for European Studies.
