NDSF 'Hamlet' is "powerful and kinetic"

SOUTH BEND - The set for the Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival's production of "Hamlet" consists of three tall wood walls and a rampart.

Props roll on and off the stage, but nothing's permanent in this Elsinore Castle, except for those oppressive walls that suggest the characters are trapped on the stage and by their destinies.

And yet, despite the simplicity of the set, David H. Bell makes such a powerful and kinetic visual statement with his production of "Hamlet" that Shakespeare's most famous and quoted play has a renewed freshness and vitality under his direction.
