Notre Dame seniors Vincent Moore, Katie Mattie, and Will Neal have been awarded first place in the short film category at Sunset Film Festival the for their documentary The Suicide Disease.
Their documentary, which premiered at the Notre Dame Film Festival this year, tells the story of former Notre Dame employee Frances Shavers. Since 2010, Shavers has suffered from a disease called Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN), a neuropathic disorder that is widely regarded as one of the most painful experiences known to humankind. In many cases, TN inflicts such excruciating pain that that victims take their own lives rather than suffer, earning it the nickname "the suicide disease."
Since 2010, Shavers has fought to rid herself of the disease while learning to move forward in her life. Click here to watch her story.
