Turbomachinery: what is it exactly?
Notre Dame's aerospace engineering professors explain what kind of research will take place in Ignition Park's new turbomachinery laboratory, which will bring in at least 120 jobs by the time it's up and running in July 2016.
"Any machine that spins is a turbo machine," says Dr. Joshua Cameron, assistant professor of aerospace engineering at Notre Dame.
So turbomachinery, then, is the study of rotating machines. Specifically, it's all about studying and changing different parts of a gas turbine engine, making sure engine parts are as safe and efficient as technologically possible.
