Two Irish On Wooden Midseason Top 25

Leigh Torbin | January 14, 2017

Two of the top players on one of the country’s top teams received some recognition for their fine work on Wednesday evening as Lindsay Allen and Brianna Turner each represented the No. 6 Notre Dame women’s basketball team on the Wooden Award’s Midseason Top 25.

Allen has been one of the country’s best ball distributors in 2016-17, ranking second nationally in assist to turnover ratio (3.75) and fifth in assists (120). Allen’s 679 career assists rank fourth in Notre Dame history and fifth in ACC lore. This sharp passing and offensive execution has helped the Irish as a team stand fifth nationally in field goal percentage at 49.2% and 21st in scoring offense, averaging 78.9 points per game.

Turner is one of the nation’s most accurate shooters and shot blocking post presences. Turner ranks fourth in ACC history in career field goal percentage at .615. She claims 211 blocked shots for the Irish, ranking third in school history behind only Ruth Riley and Devereaux Peters. The junior also stands 13th in ACC history with that sum.

The Irish are joined by Baylor, South Carolina and UConn as the only schools with multiple members of this exclusive top 25 list. Either Allen or Turner would be the first Notre Dame recipient of the Wooden Award – an organization which is recognizing Muffet McGraw, Notre Dame’s Karen and Kevin Keyes Family Head Women’s Basketball Coach, as it’s 2017 Legends of Coaching honoree.
