NOTRE DAME, Ind. --- After sweeping Marquette earlier this week, the University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team had a repeat performance over Wake Forest today, defeating them 7-0. The 24th-ranked Irish are now 10-8 on the season.
Despite being down 4-1 in the match, seniors Julie Sabacinksi and Jennifer Kellner came back to defeat their opponents at No. 2 doubles, Samantha Asch and Luisa Fernandez, 8-6. Senior Britney Sanders and sophomore Quinn Gleason also triumphed over Xue Zhang and Kasey Gardiner, 8-5, and the two victories clinched the doubles point for Notre Dame.
“We played well today, but with a lot of these teams, the doubles is key,” said head coach Jay Louderback. “If we go in 1-0, it’s hard for them to win four singles matches against us. For No. 2 doubles to come back was probably the key to the match. They did a great job of not panicking when they were down, which as two seniors, they should.”
