With their first-round selection, the Yankees took Notre Dame third baseman Eric Jagielo, the 2013 Big East Player of the Year. Jagielo, 21, was a semifinalist for the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award after hitting .388 during his junior year, leading the league in slugging percentage (.633) and on-base percentage (.500). He also ranked second in the 2012 Cape Cod League with 13 home runs.
Notre Dame junior RHP Dan Slania was selected by the San Francisco Giants with the 26th pick of the fifth round and No. 162 overall in the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Slania is the second Irish player chosen in this year's draft.
